Beautiful People: My Writing

So I occasionally do these cool character linkups, Beautiful People.

And apparently, this month isn’t characters, it’s about the writing process. How fun is that?

So I’m doing that today. Prepare for rambles and gifs.

  • How do you decide which project to work on?

Usually it’s a “first come, first serve” sort of thing. But theeeen sometimes I work on more than one at a time and whichever one I happen to be more excited about gets worked on.

So I follow my instincts.

  • How long does it usually take you to finish a project?

That varies. A lot.

Both of my Odd Team Outs happened fairly quickly. Over a month/three months. And then Blank Mastermind through drafts 1 and 2 was about a year. Short story collection took a year. Amazing Honesty took about 6 months.

And length is another matter entirely.

I’m all over the place, man.

  • Do you have any routines to put you in the writing mood?

Sitting down at the computer and typing words.

Okay okay, and music. Since I have playlists for different characters/stories on spotify, usually that inspires my creative juices for writing them.

  • What time of day do you write best?

Sadly, right as I’m supposed to be going to bed.

Since I’m usually doing chores and big sister things during the day, I have all day to think about my writing at the back of my mind, then I sit down at night and really get in the swing of typing things out just when I’m supposed to be going to bed. –sigh- This is a big part of why I’m a night owl.

  • Are there any authors you think you have a similar style to?

Gordon Korman is pretty much the reason I love writing humor so much. And then Jennifer Neilsen inspired me a lot on character voice/first person narration. Sooo yeah, those are the two that come to mind.

If you guys have other opinions, please let me know. XD

  • Why did you start writing, and why do you keep writing?

Well, the other option would be not writing and that would be unacceptable.

I started writing because I had a story taking over my brain.

And I keep writing because even better stories take over my brain.

Also I get really very attached to my characters and I couldn’t not write them, honestly.

  • What’s the hardest thing you’ve written?

Blank Mastermind

Nah, probably Odd Team Out 2, just for how much I had to push myself when I didn’t want to write. NaNoWriMo is brutal, guys.

While Blank Mastermind was exhausting, it was still crazy fun and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

  • Is there a project you want to tackle someday but you don’t feel ready yet?

I really want to write just an all-humor book. Where there’s not really a villain, it’s the just the situation/concept that provides the concept and it’s just lighthearted and funny.

Honestly, I feel like I’m ready to write that sort of thing, but it’s just that I have no plot . . . XD

-whispers- another thing that I’m not ready for purely for lack of plot would be a Blank Mastermind sequel . . .

  • What writing goals did you make for 2017 and how are they going?

Heh.

Well.

My goal for the year was to try and write at least 50k words and finish editing. I mean, full-length novel. Should be a good goal, right? Yeah, I’ve written and rewritten 195k words so far this year.

So my goals are going wonderfully, thank you for asking. ❤

  • Describe your writing process in 3 words or a gif!

Because literally nothing turns out how I expect.

Hope you enjoyed! What’s your writing process? Are you doing Beautiful People?

See ya next time,

  1. YOU SHOULD WRITE A FULL COMEDY. 😮 Oh that’d be so good…
But I can imagine how it’d be hard to find a plot for that. XD
And WOW for your goals! You’re like 4 times over then…whew. I daresay that feels good. Though I really have not a clue how much that actually IS ’cause I’m not a writer and don’t reckon by word count when I think of amounts written. 😛 I imagine it’s a lot though.

A plot will come eventually for BM sequel. If it doesn’t something drastic must take place.

    • I WOULD LOVE TO SERIOUSLY ❤ Comedy is really my favorite thing to write and it would be so fun to just go with straight funny stuff.
Yeeeaaah, I sorta went crazy with the writing. XD
Welllll, the first draft of Blank Mastermind was 75k words if that gives you anything to compare to. 😛

-wiggles eyebrows- I have something of a plot starter, actually. But it remains a secret for now. -ninjaface-

  2. Aha, so yeah…that’s a LOT.

*wiggles eyebrows back* Well keep your secrets. I’ll get it eventually. *fingergun*
(But whatever you do it better have PLENTY of Bad News. XD)

    • It is. Like, I’m trying to keep all my writing for the year in one document and had to split it into 2 because I kept making word crash. O_o

Yes, yes, you most certainly will. -nodnod-
(YES. I’m considering making him a POV character actually)

  3. Great post!
I get you on characters. I have severe character attachment issues. I miss my characters more than real people most of the time. (I know, I’m a mean person.) I could not live without them. Sometimes I even try to talk directly to them, but that never works out very well. They hate me for making their lives miserable for some reason…
Wow, great job on your goals! My main goal this year was ‘write words.’ Sometimes I don’t even know what that means though.
I did the Beautiful People linkup this month too! It was my first time. You can read my post on my blog if you so choose.
    Keep writing!

Any thoughts?
